How one duel works

The same four beats, over and over, until the questions run out.

  1. The question appears It shows on the big screen and on both duellists' phones. Everyone gets a moment to read it.
  2. Buzzers unlock together 6 seconds to buzzNobody can buzz early. Both buzzers open at the same instant, so it is a fair race.
  3. First to buzz answers 4 seconds to answer, adjustableFour options appear on their phone. The clock is short on purpose.
  4. The throne is settled Right answer wins the duel. Wrong answer hands the chance to the other player.

The three ways a duel ends

The champion holds

They answered right. Their streak grows by one, the challenger joins the back of the queue, and the next person steps up.

The challenger takes it

They answered right. They take the throne, their streak starts at one, and the old champion goes to the back of the queue.

Nobody gets it

Both duellists missed. Both step aside, the streak resets to zero, and two fresh players come off the queue. The throne is empty for a moment.

The Grand Finale

Two finalists, first to two points

When the questions run out, the game does not simply stop. The last person to win a duel faces whoever built the longest streak all game.

Same rules as a normal duel, but it runs until someone has two correct answers. If the same person is both the closer and the streak holder, they have already won it outright.

What the host can change

Questions per game. Anywhere from 3 for a quick round to 50 for a long session.
Answer time. 3 to 15 seconds. Longer suits younger players or harder questions.
Topic. Type a subject, such as Noah or Moses or parables, and the game asks only about that. Useful as a recap of whatever you have just taught.

Winning the whole thing

The Grand Finale decides the champion. Anyone who never lost a single duel is recorded in the Hall of Fame as a flawless legend, which is rarer than it sounds.
